A POUCH WITH PURPOSE
It started, like most great Aussie stories do, on a patch of country ground that was more dust than turf.
In Grafton, a small town on the banks of the Clarence River, a young Brent Livermore learned to play hockey on bumpy grass, with family and neighbours cheering from the sidelines and borrowed sticks passed between mates.
Like so many Aussie kids, Brent learned early that sport isn’t just about winning - it’s about belonging. When the town dreamed of building its first proper turf, it didn’t come from government grants or big sponsors - it came from locals remortgaging their homes, hosting raffles and running bake stalls to raise the funds themselves. That spirit - the belief that sport belongs to everyone, and that a community can move mountains when it believes in something - would go on to shape everything Brent stood for.
That same drive took him all the way to the top of the Olympic podium, wearing the green and gold with pride as one of Australia’s most decorated Kookaburras captains. But behind the medals and moments was a truth every athlete knows too well: sport gives everything, and takes just as much. It demands time, sacrifice, family moments, finances - and for many athletes, even at the highest level, there’s not much left when the final whistle blows.
That’s where ONE Active was born.
Not in a corporate office, but in the heart of someone who wanted to give back to the game - and the people - that gave him everything.
And as fate would have it, this idea resonated far beyond Grafton.
Enter Margot van Geffen, the Dutch international hockey legend whose passion for the game matches Brent’s in every way. As she steps into her next chapter beyond the international spotlight, Margot brings not only her incredible experience but her humility, humour, heart and love of the sport - proving that true champions never really stop giving back.
